Write brief reviews about the two tools you used to create short lessons with this week (Digital Storytelling through Storybooks, Cartoons & Comics).
1.
Storybird http://storybird.com/
This
storybird tool has various picture concepts to make a story. It helps students motivated to the class because storybird’s
pictures are very animated. Storybird has a lot of scenes in each
picture concept. So you can have many chances to express and describe your
story well. Plus, you can control the size and place of pictures easily.
2.
Domo http://domo.goanimate.com/
You can make stories so easily using the funny character called
"DOMO". Furthermore, you can choose characters' action, face and
background when you make a story. This function will attract many learners for
using this tool. And you can choose a speech bubble
shape too. This tool could be loved for everybody regardless of students' age.
How could these tools be used by teachers AND students?
1. Storybird
If teachers
want to tell something to students, they use this tool in a roundabout way.
Especially, if teachers have a moral teach, it is so difficult to provide
information for it. However, using a story make them be concentrated on the
class. Students realized the moral lesson through one of the examples. This
implication will be easier to young students. Because they are so young, they
can not uncderstand well about these kinds of abstract conceptions.
2. Domo
Domo
is very active storytelling tool that has many motions and feeling of faces. So
teachers can use this in a communicative dialogue in the first part of the
class. It helps them reduce the affective filter and get them easily focus on
the class. Alive communication elicits their interest to the lesson.
How could they be incorporated into a class?
1. Storybird
Many students like
playing computer games or using computers. This ‘storytbird’ tool gives them a
chance to create their own materials using their digital storytelling
tools. It’s fun way to learn English.
Also, it is very helpful to increase the children's imagination.
In addition, it will
be very fascinating for children who like to study with visual materials.
While making a storybook, they will improve their writing, reading skills. If
they read aloud their friend or family, they will improve speaking skills.
2. Domo
As I
mentioned it before, when teachers make a role-play in the class, they show the
script using this tool to the students. But if teachers want the students to
make their own script, it could be a homework before the role-play lesson.
