#8 Open Topic / Reflection
For your final blog post, please feel free to write about any topic related to the course.
When I thought of 'Computer-Assisted Language Learning before taking it, I was frightened. Because I am the person who is not good at dealing with computer stuff a bit. As time goes by, I am quite shocked because of all these many tools that we learned in the class. It was much more than I thought. It was such an interesting class to take to know all of these new things.
As I already fully knew how much it would be helpful to my language learning, I was so happy while doing all of my assignments. I would like to use all of the things that I have learned in this course. Though, it is a shamed that we didn't look into those web sites and practice them.
I want to keep using these tools for my classes. I am sure that my students are going to like the new style. In one of my classes, I have to use touchscreen TV to present the class and it is connected with PC. I assumed that I can use tools through this and I am glad that I can use the tools that I have learnt.
#7: Mobile App Review

Now, TED Mobile for iPhone is the organization's second mobile app. TED is a nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design. All of the talks are subtitled in English, and many are subtitled in various languages. The iPhone app, like its iPad counterpart, allows users to browse and bookmark TED's library of 18-minutes-or-less talks by prominent thought leaders. They can request a playlist of talks by theme, or by the amount of time they have. And they can easily share talks with social networks.

#6: Digital Storytelling
Write brief reviews about the two tools you used to create short lessons with this week (Digital Storytelling through Storybooks, Cartoons & Comics).
1.
Storybird http://storybird.com/
This
storybird tool has various picture concepts to make a story. It helps students motivated to the class because storybird’s
pictures are very animated. Storybird has a lot of scenes in each
picture concept. So you can have many chances to express and describe your
story well. Plus, you can control the size and place of pictures easily.
2.
Domo http://domo.goanimate.com/
You can make stories so easily using the funny character called
"DOMO". Furthermore, you can choose characters' action, face and
background when you make a story. This function will attract many learners for
using this tool. And you can choose a speech bubble
shape too. This tool could be loved for everybody regardless of students' age.
How could these tools be used by teachers AND students?
1. Storybird
If teachers
want to tell something to students, they use this tool in a roundabout way.
Especially, if teachers have a moral teach, it is so difficult to provide
information for it. However, using a story make them be concentrated on the
class. Students realized the moral lesson through one of the examples. This
implication will be easier to young students. Because they are so young, they
can not uncderstand well about these kinds of abstract conceptions.
2. Domo
Domo
is very active storytelling tool that has many motions and feeling of faces. So
teachers can use this in a communicative dialogue in the first part of the
class. It helps them reduce the affective filter and get them easily focus on
the class. Alive communication elicits their interest to the lesson.
How could they be incorporated into a class?
1. Storybird
Many students like
playing computer games or using computers. This ‘storytbird’ tool gives them a
chance to create their own materials using their digital storytelling
tools. It’s fun way to learn English.
Also, it is very helpful to increase the children's imagination.
In addition, it will
be very fascinating for children who like to study with visual materials.
While making a storybook, they will improve their writing, reading skills. If
they read aloud their friend or family, they will improve speaking skills.
2. Domo
As I
mentioned it before, when teachers make a role-play in the class, they show the
script using this tool to the students. But if teachers want the students to
make their own script, it could be a homework before the role-play lesson.
#5: Corpora, Concordance, Collocations, Word Frequency
Check out the following sites and report back on how they could be used to inform materials development and classroom instruction:
1. Compleat Lexical Tutor
http://www.lextutor.ca/This website is developed by Tom Cobb of the University of Quebec at Montreal(UQAM). This website has lots of tools for English teaching and learning vocabulary and grammar. Also, this site provides diagnostic vocabulary tests. At first, it may not easy to know how to use it. But if you know this website considerably, you can check it's so useful for learning language.
2. Corpus of Contemporary American English
http://corpus.byu.edu/coca/
Corpus of Contemporary American English site gives us fresh information and accurate frequency data of English in the different kinds of parts like journals, newspapers, fictions. It contains more than 450 million words of text. If you search the word, you can check a lot of corpus and collocations with the word plus the frequency of these.3. Wordle
http://www.wordle.net/In the Wordle website, we can create any word clouds by ourselves with words size, layouts, colors, fonts. It looks like a word puzzle or word map. Students can feel exciting under the stimulus of these wordle pictures. The most important thing is that WORDLE provides a measure the frequency of the words. It heps us to search the key-words or topic. Moreover, you can put monthly class percepts using this wordle picture. You can choose a special topic and make a text together. It could be more related with students because it is from the students themselves.
